Franklin Wright Kicks-Off Grow Detroit Young Talent (GDYT)

Franklin Wright kicks off Grow Detroit Young Talent (GDYT) with 100 Detroit youth. The Detroit initiative is a citywide summer jobs program that provides meaningful training and employment opportunities for young people ages 14 to 24 for up to 120 hours. More than 8,000 local youth participate each year.

"We are delighted to be a part of the program again this year," said Monique Marks, president of Franklin Wright. "Through various programs, we prepare young people for future opportunities. GDYT is an excellent program that help achieve our mission."

Franklin Wright has worked with GDYT since the inception of the program. This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the organization is conducting the program entirely online.

Franklin Wright youth workers interact with program participants on a Virtual Job Shadowing platform that allows them to search for jobs, schools and colleges.

They are also guided through the resume writing process and have access to speakers who specialize in various careers. The youth can also receive COVID counseling, grief and trauma therapeutic services. Students must reach weekly benchmarks in order to earn up to $1,164 for the summer.

Franklin Wright Settlements, Inc. is a leading Detroit neighborhood human services organization existing to assist individuals, families, groups and the community with basic life, family and social needs.
